The High Priest wears white clothing, which is a symbol of purity.  We learn from Ecclesiastes that purity means to act on the outside consistently with the values we hold on the inside.

Yoma 59 - The Clear Blue Sky

The clear blue sky inspires us to be in awe of what is greater than us.
