Yoma 58 - The Sea of Solomon

The Talmud mentions the great "sea" of Solomon, tha basin which Solomon built in his Temple for the Kohanim to wash from prior to performing the Temple service. We discuss why washing before performing service of God helps bring meaning to the service we perform.

Yoma 57 - But It Is Your Fault!

Rabbi Chanina tells us that God is with us despite our impurities.  The verse in Lamentations reminds us of an important lesson.  Although it is human not to have compassion when someone gets into trouble due to their own negligence, God teaches us that we must still have compassion.

Yoma 56 - A Conditional Vow

We study the opinion of Rabbi Yehuda, that a condition one makes that has not yet occured is not valid.  However, Yiftach, in the Book of Judges, did not know this law, and there were tragic consequences.

Yoma 55 - Differences can be Unifiers

Rabbi Yehuda does not e]want us creating differences between the vessels of the Temple, perhaps because he is concerned that this can cause division.  However, we learn from Ezekiel that sometimes differences can be unifiers as well.

Rabbi Yochanan quotes a verse from Daniel about a mysterious seven year covenant.  We take a look at Daniel and learn that we can rely on God to do His part if we are humble and do ours.

The Talmud speaks of the smoke filled Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, reminiscent of the smoke filled room in which the prophet Isaiah received his mission from God.

Yoma 52 - The Temple Measurements

The Talmud discusses the measurements of Solomon's temple.  We read that portion of Kings that describes the important message to be learned from the process of construction used for the temple building.

Yoma 51 - Bringing the People Together

The Talmud mentions that the Paschal lamb is brought in groups. As the people of Israel entered their new land after the sojourn in the desert, Joshua brought the together to celebrate Passover. What an appropriate way for the nation to start - together.

Yoma 50 - Wisdom Cannot Be Bought

The Talmud discusses the prohibition of a "Temurah" an exchange of one animal for another.  Just as every being is unique in ways that cannot be measured, so too wisdom itself is not something we can obtain by paying for it.  Thus we are taught by Job.

Yoma 49 - Passover With King Josiah

Rav Chisda brings proof that a non-priest is allowed to carry the blood to the priest from the story of the Passover of Josiah.  This was one of the most spectacular and important Passover celebrations in history, one which helped restore the nation.
